Throwing Your Dog a Birthday Party

Here at Life is a Party we know that birthdays are important and LOVE to make them special. Someone that we absolutely can’t forget when it comes to celebrating birthdays is our amazing furry friends! It's about time we throw a party for our doggos, and here are some ways to do it in a fun and easy way:

You can go easy on the decor, because your dog will definitely love you no matter what the party looks like. Use things that you already have as the decorations! Things like their toys and dog treats can go a long way. Displaying them in jars or vases will take something super ordinary and make it extraordinary!

If you have other doggie guests attending, get some sidewalk chalk and draw paw prints on the ground to lead them to the party! It is definitely more for the humans entertainment, but can be very cute.

A sign is a must at any party, so make one for your dogs birthday party! You can place a chalkboard by the food that says, “Bone Appétit” or use a letter board to say something like, "Hot Diggity Dog". You can also cut out dog bone table confetti to tie everything together!

As far as the food, it might sound cliche, but hot dogs are definitely the way to go. We had regular hot dogs and bratwurst to have a little variety. Don't forget all the usual hot dog condiments to make them perfect. Ketchup, mustard, and relish are usually all that you need.

If you are willing to break your dogs typical diet, you can give them a hot dog too! It will probably be the best moment of their whole lives. So maybe let them treat themselves?? They deserve it.

For the drink, we got blue Powerade or Gatorade and called it "toilet water" for our guests. This is kind of gross but very funny. It will totally make your friends laugh.

It's time to get baking! Doggie baking that is. Make some PUPcakes for the special occasion. Here is an easy recipe that your dogs are sure to love:

Ingredients for cake:

  • 3/4 cup mashed bananas (about two medium-size bananas)

  • 1 egg

  • 1/4 cup peanut butter

  • 2/3 cup milk

  • 1/2 cup rolled oats

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Ingredients for frosting:

  • 8 oz. cream cheese

  • 1/4 cup peanut butter

Start by mixing together all of the wet ingredients for the cupcakes into a bowl, then slowly fold in the dry ingredients. Then pour the contents of the bowl into a cupcake tin and bake them for 10 minutes at 350 degrees. Take them out of the oven and let them cool before frosting.

For the frosting, mix the two ingredients together and pipe it onto the cool cupcakes. Then add a dog treat on top and you are done! They are so easy and your dogs will LOVE them.

You can make the cupcakes different sizes depending on your dog breed. If you have a medium/big dog, you should be good with a normal sized cupcake tin. But if you have a smaller dog, you might want to use a mini one!

Your dog's birthday party is the best time ever to do a cute photoshoot with your pup! Make a bunting so it looks like an official photo booth and start snapping pics. Our bunting said "Let's Pawty".

Definitely make sure to include an activity for your dog to do at the party! My dog Murphy LOVESSSS fetch (especially with a frisbee) so we made sure to play with him a lot during the party. It made his day and ours.

Doggie Bags! These will be so fun for everyone at the party, dogs AND humans. Fill your doggie bag favors with treats for dogs and candy for humans. We made these cute labels for the bags on our computer through the Avery software.

We hope you have the most amazing a birthday party for your dog! Whether it is an event with friends and other dogs or just a small family gathering, we know it will be a blast.

Woof!
